Juno Awards

Canada’s Music Awards

It’s been a busy couple of months in Ottawa with lots of large productions coming to town. Jon was recording sound at multiple events across the city during the week of Canada’s Juno Awards. Some highlights were interviewing bands at the Canadian Tire Centre before their sound check, and skating on the ice with Juno nominees and NHL players at the Juno Cup. Another great event was for the MusiCounts Band Aid Program, where $10,000 in musical instruments was awarded to St. Elizabeth school, and the crowd was treated to a performance by Juno winner Ruth B.

THE AMAZING RACE CANADA

PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS

The winners of The Amazing Race Canada (season 4), Steph and Kristen, were in Ottawa this summer to film some promotional videos with a few potential contestants for the upcoming 5th season. They were travelling around Canada interviewing the top 10 teams who submitted audition tapes for the race. Steph and Kristen joined the teams for some fun activities across town like indoor rock climbing and pole dancing. Jon was with them for the week recording sound as Steph and Kristen interviewed all the groups as they participated in challenges and auditioned for the show.

The Nature of Things with David Suzuki came to Ottawa this month to film the Ottawa Fire Training symposium. Jon was on location recording sound as the instructors demonstrated a series of controlled fires and how to properly extinguish them. Many local fire fighters, both veterans and rookies were on site to participate in the controlled fire training exercises.

Daily Planet

Training exercises with underwater search and rescue teams

Jon just finished working on location for another episode of Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet. This episode features a rookie police officer in the Toronto underwater search and rescue team. The training exercises were filmed outdoors in a huge quarry, where the dive team had to cut a hole in the ice and swim down to 100 feet to investigate sunken wreckage. The Daily Planet episode showcases the mental and physical challenges of being an underwater search and rescue diver.
